Banksy is a notorious British graffiti artist, political activist and painter, whose identity is unknown. His unique street art is a combination of witty humor with graffiti done in a distinctive stenciling technique. This art has been featured on streets, walls, and bridges of cities throughout the world. This art work in particular is a graffiti piece depicting graffiti removal. Created in May 2008 at Leake Street in London and painted over in August 2008. The artwork shows animal paintings resembling cave art from Lascaux being removed by a council worker with a water blaster. This artwork is exhibiting a very clever message showing that graffiti today is like our modern day cave art and by removing our “cave art” we art destroying our culture and not letting us express ourselves for who we are. It is saying that if we cherish the “street art” of our ancestor, we should do the same for the cave art of today.
